Independent Expert – AEMC 5-minute Settlement Rule Change Proposal

April 2017 - The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) received a rule change request by Sun Metals in December 2015 with the intended introduction of a 5-minute settlement period to the Australian Energy Market.

Due to the fundamental implications of this type of rule change, the AEMC has engaged Energy Edge as an independent advisor.

Energy Edge were tasked at investigating the impact that the proposed change in settlement period from 30-minutes to 5-minutes would have the financial contract markets with particular analysis on the 30-minute $300 cap contract market.

APLNG - First LNG Export

January 2016 APLNG successfully exported LNG on the Methane Spirit from Curtis Island, Gladstone on 9th January at 9:28pm on its way to the Port of Hi, Japan. Methane Spirit had been at anchorage since 2nd December 2015.

Previously, the Magellan Spirit had docked at site on 13th December for the initial cooling requirements of the commissioning of the asset but was subsequently filled by QCLNG and exported to Singapore. The Magellan Spirit had been at anchorage since 13 October.

QCLNG - Five Million Tonnes of LNG Exports

December 2015 The QCLNG facility has reached an incredible milestone by surpassing 5 million tons of exported LNG during the calendar year 2015.

QCLNG commissioned its first LNG train in December 2014 becoming the first Coal Seam Gas (CSG) to LNG facility in the world. The second train was brought online in July 2015. Both trains have made great gains in terms of throughput and reliability over the last year.

The neighbouring GLNG has also already exported more than 500kt of LNG since its startup in September 2015.

Santos GLNG First LNG

October 2015 Get in touch with the gas market with two LNG trains online at the Queensland Curtis LNG facility and the first LNG at the Santos GLNG facility.

On 20 December 2013, The Queensland Government announced the appointment of advisors to undertake scoping studies and market soundings to investigate future options for two of the government owned power generators and two ports.
